Xenovate 0.05% Ointment is a topical corticosteroid medication used to treat autoimmune skin disorders like psoriasis, lichen planus, discoid lupus erythematosus, and eczema. These conditions involve immune cells attacking healthy skin cells, causing inflammation. The cream contains Clobetasol Propionate, an active corticosteroid that reduces swelling, redness, and itching by suppressing inflammation-causing chemical messengers.
This prescription-only cream should be used as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Regular use is recommended for best results. While applying, a brief burning or stinging sensation may occur, but it usually subsides. Avoid contact with the eyes, and if accidental contact happens, rinse thoroughly with warm water.
Prior to use, inform your healthcare provider if you have allergies to Clobetasol Propionate, its ingredients, or other medicines. Do not use Xenovate 0.05% Ointment for conditions like acne, rosacea, perioral dermatitis, non-inflamed itchy or infected skin, or widespread plaque psoriasis (except single lesions). Consult your doctor before using during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or if you're attempting to conceive. Clobetasol Propionate is a topical corticosteroid with a high potency. It works as an anti-inflammatory, anti-pruritic, and vasoconstrictor. It inhibits late-phase allergic responses by exhibiting anti-inflammatory effects through several pathways. Mast cell density, chemotaxis, and eosinophil activation are all reduced. It also inhibits arachidonic acid metabolism and decreases cytokine production.
Adult Dose: For corticosteroid-responsive skin conditions: Apply a thin layer to affected areas every 12 hours, gently rubbing it in completely. Do not exceed 50 g per week. For scalp psoriasis: Apply a thin film to the dry scalp once a day. Leave it on for 15 minutes, then add water, lather, and rinse thoroughly. For moderate to severe plaque-type psoriasis: Apply to the affected scalp area every 12 hours for up to 2 weeks, if the affected area is less than 10% of the body surface area. Do not exceed 50 g per week.
Child Dose: Below 12 years: Safety and efficacy not established 12 years and above Follow the same instructions as adults.
Instructions for Use: Always use Xenovate 0.05% Ointment as directed by your physician. It is meant for external use only. Clean and dry the affected area before applying the medicine. Gently apply a thin layer to the affected area and rub it in. Wash your hands before and after applying the medicine. Avoid using Xenovate 0.05% Ointment on your face, eyes, or large areas. Do not use it under bandages or for an extended period without consulting your doctor. Your doctor will determine the application duration and frequency based on the type of infection.
Caution advised in patients with:
Pregnancy: Safety data on clobetasol in pregnant women is not available. Published data indicate a significantly increased risk of low birth weight when using more than 300 grams of potent or very potent topical corticosteroid during pregnancy. Pregnant women should be informed of the potential risk to the fetus and should use clobetasol on the smallest skin area and for the shortest duration possible.
Lactation: There is no information available about the presence of clobetasol in breast milk or its effects on breastfed infants or milk production. Systemically administered corticosteroids can appear in human milk and potentially affect growth or endogenous corticosteroid production. The extent of systemic absorption from topical clobetasol and its presence in human milk is unknown. To minimize exposure to the breastfed infant, use clobetasol on the smallest skin area and for the shortest duration possible while breastfeeding. Breastfeeding women should avoid applying clobetasol directly to the nipple and areola to prevent direct infant exposure.
Store Xenovate 0.05% Ointment at room temperature, and keep away from direct sunlight. Keep away from pets and children.
